KNOW GOD | MAKE ART

About Me

Hi! I’m Hanna. I grew up loving creative stuff - whether it was making jewelry, crochet, clay animal figurines, or decorating the flossiest Moroccan-themed teenage bedroom you’ve ever seen. (Mom, you get major cool points for helping me paint my walls angsty-teenage red and purple.) 😂

But despite all the joy I found in creativity, I let fear of failure keep me from pursuing any structured art classes or practice.

After years of quietly envying people who were painting, drawing, making pottery, etc., a few things spurred me to finally start an art practice:

  1. My husband encouraged me to read the book Mindset by Carol Dweck… I can just learn stuff and improve skills that I’m interested in?? Who knew?

  2. We moved to a small town with an amazing pottery studio, and my husband encouraged me to take lessons. (He really is the best!)

  3. I discovered artists I admire online and realized they’re normal people like me and you. Sandi Hester helped give me the courage to start a sketchbook practice. Ruth Chou Simons made me think about the connection between theology and creativity. And things snowballed from there.

Since early 2022, God has been helping me learn (albeit slowly) to use art as a way to worship Him instead of myself. I still have a long way to go, but I hope this blog will be a fun way to document my journey. Maybe it’ll even encourage someone else to grow in their own God-given creativity.

I want to continually remind myself (and you too!) that we’re free to experiment, take creative risks, and explore different interests without fear of failure, because our identity is secure in Christ.

I believe knowing God fuels creativity, and creativity fuels knowing God. So let’s get to making and enjoy every second of it! ❤️ 🎨
